Welcome from the Chairs
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 73rd IFA Congress, which will take place in London from Sunday 8th – Thursday 12th September 2019.
IFA’s annual Congresses provide a unique opportunity to bring together leading tax experts from corporations, governments, academia, and advisors, to discuss and debate international tax topics of current major interest and importance.
The discussions are focussed on both technical issues and practical matters faced by all those involved in making the international tax system work.
Together with MCI, our professional conference organiser, we have designed a range of flexible opportunities for our commercial partners and supporters outlined in this document. We hope you will partner with us to make the London Congress a truly memorable occasion.

Welcome from the President
This is a dynamic period in the world of international tax, a time of significant change as countries and businesses adjust to the challenges of globalisation. Governments are hungry for revenue and civil society calls for multinationals to pay their ‘fair share’ of tax so businesses have to cope with ever greater regulation and calls for transparency. This leads to constant change in the architecture of international tax.
The key topics to be addressed in the London Congress reflect these dynamics:
- Interest deductibility: BEPS (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting) Action 4 implementation, of significant importance to corporate taxpayers
- Investment funds, a topic close to the heart of the City of London
- and a thoughtfully designed programme of seminars to debate other issues, including the futuristic Taxation treatment of Space!
The annual Congress is IFA’s flagship event; our members gather to debate such topics and benefit from the ability to engage with other tax experts from many different countries and backgrounds. More than 2000 participants from around the world are expected to attend the London Congress. I am delighted that in 2019 the Congress is coming to my own home city and I am pleased to endorse the IFA UK Branch’s invitation to sponsor the event.
